We are excited to host the unveiling of the beautiful collaboration between Lois Samuels and Simon Ungless!
Lois and Simon first met in London during their early careers at Alexander McQueen, where Samuels was modeling and Ungless led print design.
About Lois Samuels
Lois is a multimedia artist whose professional career spans photography, fashion design and ceramics. Born in Jamaica, Lois traveled the globe as a model appearing on the covers of Vogue and Essence and in the landmark CKOne campaign, as well as working with an international roster of designers from Givenchy to Miyake. She went on to establish her own women’s fashion and accessory brand, the Vessel, which was featured in WWD, Italian Vogue, LeMonde and other leading fashion publications. Samuels has also published two books—one on the modeling industry and another, a book of photography published by MacMillan Publishers (UK), that captures the light and soul of her island home.
For this collaboration Simon developed a series of new screens derived from Lois’ ceramic works, translating their tactile, expressive surfaces into layered prints applied to garments from her collection The Vessel. The result is a series of one-of-a-kind pieces that move between sculpture and clothing, echoing WSMR’s ongoing exploration of material transformation and process-driven design.
As WSMR’s April Artist in Residence, Samuels will present the collection through a series of public events at the studio:
Open Studio & Shopping Saturday, April 18, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Evening Reception & Artist Talk Saturday, April 18, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Morning Coffee & Shopping Sunday, April 19, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Held at the When Simon Met Ralph studio at 265 Gate 5 Road Studio B, Sausalito, the events invite visitors into the collaborative process—offering an opportunity to experience the garments firsthand and engage with the dialogue between fashion, craft, and art.
