Bitter Sweet

Bitter Sweet

We've all done it; packing, unpacking. Settling in and finding new friends. It's all part of the journey. This time, however,  hits different, not sure if it's where I am in life but the past two years at Marinship Studios has truly been a whirlwind from the start.

We found the space through a new friend, Susan with whom we have developed a lasting collaboration of ceramics and fashion. The studio was exactly what we were looking for. Roomy, close to the city, not too perfect so we could make the occasional mess. While moving in the property manager Julian and his wife Kate were more than helpful and became fast friends, so much so, they stood up for us at our wedding a few months later.

As it happens with chitchat we quickly heard the scuttlebutt about our new neighbors. We were taken aback by all their accomplishments as one by one we met them all. To my amazement, they were as enchanted with what we do.

First up were Jean and Michael, both having major careers in the special effects industry working on nearly all my favorite films and then some. They have each planted them selves forever in my heart and have provided many laughs, hugs and experiences second to none.

We then met the jewelry girls, Maya and Laura, both well accomplished in their own right. Maya was gracious enough to make our wedding bands and Laura has introduced us to her wonderful circle of friends who, from time to time stop in for a glass to celebrate.

Another neighbor is Isabella, I can't say enough about her artistry. She is forever finding beauty in everything and turning it into artwork. She is also one of the founding members of the Lunch Club. IYKYK

Liz, always hard at work, pops in from time to time with a big smile and eager to look at what we're working on.

These beautiful people have become our people. A small tribe that has laughed and played and couldn't wait to show everyone the new piece of work. The club that shares meals, stories and part of their lives. A group that has come together when the water of the SF bay has taken over our space and left things a mess.

It's now time for us to pack and unpack again, to start anew and keep our feet dry.
